Katsina state House of Assembly, for the second time, shut its doors to journalists, Ulamas and the general public from witnessing the presentation of a committee set up by the House to investigate the rampant cases of sodomy at Government Technical College, Ingawa, Katsina state.
The House has earlier set up a committee led by the deputy speaker, Alhaji Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, to investigate an incident of Sodomy in the college that led to the dismissal of 20 students of the institution.
The committee had previously postponed the presentation of the report three times, a development that made some Islamic scholars to put pressure to the House to make the presentation yesterday which the House decided to receive in a closed door session.
An Islamic scholar, Muhammad Sani, who invited the general public to the House to witness the presentation, told newsmen that they would not accept any move by the House to cover those behind the illicit act.
According to him, for justice and the need to save the future of students in the state public schools, the House must make sure reasonable measures were taken to protect the students.
It was gathered that the college authorities had set up an internal investigation panel that fished out 20 students that were directly involved in the illicit act and subsequently dismissed them.
When contacted, the executive secretary of the science and technical education board, Alhaji Lawal T. Bosa, said he “cannot comment” since the Assembly was already investigating the matter.
