Katsina Central group wants Barkiya to run for senate

A coalition of 50 youth groups in Katsina have called on Engr.
Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya to contest Katsina Central senatorial seat, to take the area to another level, saying his performance at FERMA will add colour to his mandate.
the groups include, Katsina state Unity Association, Katsina Youth for Effective Leadership, Kofar Kwaya Multi Purpose Society, Katsina Young Farmers Association, and Katsina Women for Change Association among others.
The coalition made their position known yesterday at a press conference in Katsina, saying time had come to elect leaders based on their merit.
Chairman of the coalition, Mohammed Mustapha, said the call for Barkiya to vie for the Senate seat became imperative, going by the services rendered when he held sway at FERMA, saying he provided employment to a reasonable number of Katsina youths at various government parastatals as chief executive of FERMA.
He said, even after his retirement, Barkiya continued with his humanitarian services to Katsina people, especially empowerment to youths.
Mustapha said, “As at today, many youths have so benefited from his poverty alleviation programmes, besides his scholarship to many students in higher institutions across the state.” The coalition, however, appealed to Engr.
Barkiya to accept their call and contest the senate seat to rescue Katsina Central.
