Katsina govt spends N1.9bn on community projects

Katsina state government has said that it spent over N1.9 billion to assist 2, 400 communities across the state last year.
Special Adviser to Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema on Community Development, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar Bindawa, disclosed this to newsmen yesterday in Katsina.
According to him, the assistance was provided last year through his department following the request of the communities.
Bindawa said all the assistance was rendered to the communities based on their priority requests of projects through the community development committee (CDC) set up by Governor Shema.
He said the assistance included the construction of 361 mosques, and 34 central mosques, adding that over 361 Islamiyya schools were assisted with working tools and materials for construction work.
According to Bindawa, over 722 communities got supportive working materials for the completion of various self-help projects initiated by them.
Bindawa also said wrappers worth N2 million was purchased and distributed to women Muslim converts freely in the state as well two buses were donated to Jama’atul Izalatul Bidi’a (JIBWIS) for (Da’awah) Islamic propagation in Funtua zone.
He said the department spent N2.6 million in sponsoring a special prayer for peace in the state.
The special adviser said N1.3 million was expended by the department in assisting the release of 1, 000 prisoners with minor offences.
