Katsina lawmaker trains 190 women, youth on business skills



The National Directorate of Employment NDE has commenced the supervision of the training of 190 women and youth in three different skills acquisition programmes under the sponsorship of Senator Abdullahi Barkiya’s constituency programme in Katsina.

The participants, drawn from the 11 local government areas of Katsina zone, would receive training skills such as accounting, management and marketing.

The programme, which is being carried out by a consulting firm, KIAWA Integral Resources Limited, would assist the beneficiaries in the act of basic business maintenance culture.

The state NDE coordinator, Alhaji Yerima Sa’ad Iya  in his address, urged the trainees to be attentive to what they would be taught to enable them grow their various business outfits.

Yerima said the skills acquisition programmes initiated by the Katsina Central senator, Abdullahi Barkiya, was meant to improve the economic status of the selected women and youth in the zone.

He said the skills acquired, if put to use, would go a long way in improving their well being and that of their families as well as develop their immediate communities.

The consultant, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdu, who noted that the participants had received the needed training, said the trainees would be empowered with working tools, adding that 100 sewing machines would be given out while another 70 and 20 motorcycles and welding machines, respectively would be distributed to other beneficiaries.

The consultant said the materials would be distributed free of charge to all the participants, appealing to them not to exchange the tools for monetary gains to enable them become self reliant.
