Katsina state governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has announced a deficit of 16,000 classrooms in primary schools across the state.
Masari was speaking when he received the World Bank Mission on the Nigeria Education Project, Mr Adekola, who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Katsina.
The governor also announced a 13,000 teachers’ deficit in primary schools in the state.
Masari explained that the problem made the current APC administration in the state to initiate S- Power programme and hoped to recruit 5,000 teachers to reduce the deficit this year.
The governor expressed the hope that future release of funds to states by the World Bank and other development partners would depend on mprovements noticed in increased provision of additional classrooms, teaching aids and teachers.
He expressed the resolve of the administration to continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to improve retention of school-going pupils, to record more enrollments in order to reduce out of school children in the state.
He spoke at length on the role expected to be played by parents to educate the citizenry.
Earlier, the Task Team Leader of the World Bank Mission, Mr Adekola told the governor that he was impressed with the giant strides towards boosting girl child education in the state.
