Katsina spends N2bn monthly on teachers’ salaries – Commissioner

Katsina state government has disclosed that it spends over N2 billion every month on the salaries of 27,000 teachers.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr, Badamasi Lawal Charanchi, made the disclosure yesterday at a press conference in Katsina.
According to him, the payment goes to the entire teachers as at when due and that no single teacher was being owed a single kobo.
He said both the primary and secondary school teachers were being encouraged by the Governor Aminu Bello Masari-led administration through the constant payment of their salaries and entitlements.
Charanchi said the state leadership “is doing everything possible to discourage out of school through well-improved school enrolment.”
He said the state had achieved 140 per cent school enrolment increase within the period of two years of Masari administration, particularly girl-child education.
The commissioner said the partnering between the state government and UNICEF through the conditional cash transfer of N50, 000 to each selected child had assisted greatly in the enrolment and sustenance of girl-child education in the state.
He called on the parents, teachers and students to endure frequent attendance and avoid any act of lateness of their wards to school.
