Katsina spent N2.5bn on school examination fees – Commissioner

Katsina state government has expended the sum of N2.5 Billion on  52,285 students who sat for secondary school examinations within  five years period.

The state commissioner of education Professor Badamasi Lawal Charanchi stated this at a press conference  Tuesday in Katsina.

The commissioner said the payment was made to the West African Examination Council WAEC, NECO and NABTEB examinations to students of secondary schools across the state.

He said the present administration of Aminu Bello Masari is working towards the improvement of free education in the state.

Charanchi said the gesture is making necessary adjustment in the student’s performances by scoring high grades in all the examinations. He said out of the 52,285 that sat for the examinations, 46,937 scored 9 credits each from NECO.

He said in 2018 alone, over 10,000 students got 9 credits and 15,220 students that sat for the examinations in 2019 also had 9 credits each.

The commissioner also stated that 4,448 students within the period of 5 years scored 5 credits and above, representing 84.9 percent just as 33,682 students obtained credits in English and Mathematics, representing 75.4 percent of them.

He said in 2019 alone, 74,188 students obtained 5 credits each from both WAEC and NECO across the state, adding that 58,928 of them successfully passed English and Mathematics subjects respectively.

The commissioner commended Governor Masari for improving the state educational budget, saying the budget’s improvement assisted greatly in the achievement.

Charanchi said within the period of five  years of Masari administration, over N10 billion has  so far been expended on the construction and upgrading of schools in the state.
