Kebbi APC: Over 800 jostling for chairmanship, councillorship positions

No fewer than three hundred and twenty (327) members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kebbi state chapter are aspiring for the positions of chairman of the 21 local government councils while five hundred and fifteen (515) are also jostling for councillorship seats in the 225 wards across the state in the forthcoming councils elections scheduled to hold in October, 2019.

This was confirmed by the state APC spokesperson, Alhaji Sani Dododo, said the party has earlier on divided the state into six political zones and set up reconciliation committees that would meet with the aspirants with a view to encouraging some to step down and thus reduce the number to a reasonable proportion.

According to him, the party doesn’t intend to undergo primaries by adopting a direct or indirect system of choosing a candidate as enshrined by the party’s constitution but yet, the party in the state had resolved to embraced dialogue.

Further, Dododo said three out of the six committees had already presented their reports to the party for considerations, adding that it was deliberate that the party decided to release expression of interest form before the sales of nomination form.

He noted with dismay the attitude of some of the aspirants who, he claimed, were parading themselves as the party’s or government candidates thereby deceiving innocent electorate and thus attempting to weaken their co-aspirants.

“I want to state categorically here that the party and government of Kebbi state has no interest in any particular aspirants and would never interfere with the process”

He warned aspirants to desist from such acts otherwise, drastic measures awaits any erring aspirant and which could be outright disqualification from the contest.

The party spokesman also drew the attention of APC loyalists to embrace with respect anybody who wishes to join the party and without any condition or reservation.

“APC is people’s party therefore, you should accept anyone coming in and he/she should be given equal opportunity to even contest an election under the flat form”

Efforts to secure comments on the level of preparedness from the side of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) proved abortive as its Public Relations Officer (PRO) Malam Ibrahim Umar Ummai was not picking his calls at the time of filling this report.
