Kebbi state Emergency Management Agency (KSEMA) has warned the people of the state to desist from buying substandard electrical appliances, saying “electrical shops owners should ensure that only standard wires, recommended by Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), are sold to consumers.
Chairman of the agency in the state, Alhaji Sani Dododo, who gave the warning yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, noted that a considerable number of fire incidences were as a result of the used of very law quality electrical cables and other related appliances.
He further warned that government would not fold its arms and watch lives and property of citizens perish to infernos “simply because some bad elements are selling substandard products to them.”
He said: “We just had a meeting recently with the SON, the police, electrical shops owners and stakeholders and resolved that henceforth, substandard items should not be brought to the state and a routine periodic check would be mounted by security agents, SON and KSEMA.
“The problem is that people liked cheap material otherwise, how anybody would spent millions of naira to build a house and instead of procuring standard wires they go for the cheaper ones and no sooner they melt.”
“As you know, for over a year now Kebbi enjoyed an uninterrupted power supply because of the efforts made by the Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu-led administration; so, we enjoy 24 hours steady supply unlike before when we experienced load shedding every six hourly.”
