Governor Sa’idu Usman Dakingari of Kebbi state has called on the people living around border areas to live in peace with their neighbouring Niger and Benin Republics in order to maintain the long-standing relationship amongst the three nations.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, said the governor made the appeal while inspecting the construction of a Police Barracks and road projects in Lolo village bordering Benin Republic yesterday.
He noted that peace remains the bedrock for any societal development, therefore, urged the people in the area to embrace their counterparts as brothers and sisters.
Dakingari further reaffirmed the state government’s commitments to improving the living conditions of communities on border areas by providing them with necessary social amenities for them to have sense of belonging.
He directed the Bogudo local government council to ensure that peace was maintained despite cases of encroachment by authorities of Benin Republic where they go beyond Pillar 35, near Tungar Yelwa village, thereby claiming some Nigerian villages into their territory.
The statement added that the governor also visited the new settlement of Tungar Isah and Bagire, displaced people from Tungar Kwangi that were forced to leave their villages in 2009 by securities from Benin Republic who attacked and burned the villages.
On the new settlement, the governor directed for the immediate provision of social amenities such as potable drinking water, ultra modern central Mosque, electricity, hospitals farm lands and schools to enable the displaced communities live a normal life.
It would be recalled that after the attacked the Kebbi state government established new settlements for the displace persons where they were provided with shelter with a view to giving them a sense of belonging.
Similarly, the governor inspected on-going road construction of Ka’oje-Lafagu, Besse-Samanaji-Bagudo, Ka’oje and Bagudo township road projects, as well as Kende Sharabi Road.
