The wife of Kebbi state Governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, has commended Journalists for educating and sensitising the general public against the menace of the dreaded coronavirus Pandemic.
She said Journalists, not only in Kebbi state, but across the country, must be lauded especially those at the frontline, who on daily basis present to the public reports on the Covid-19.
According a statement issued by Special Adviser on Media to Kebbi state Governor, Yahaya Sarki , the Dr. Zainab made the commendation during the distribution of Ramadan package and palliatives to the families of deceased Journalists, organised by the Kebbi State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Monday, in Birnin Kebbi.
She said, “I must commend the good work you are doing not only in Kebbi, but across the country.
“What the media are doing in the health sector on Covid-19 pandemic must be recognized, it is an issue beyond the health sector alone.
“The pandemic has affected all aspects of our lives, including economic and social issues, “she said.
She urged Journalists to continue to sensitize and create awareness on Covid-19, so as to debunk myths and misconceptions on the disease
” This is in order to block any room for fake news or misinformation on the pandemic to the general public.
” There is a lot of misconception out there and fake news on Covid-19 pandemic which you can help to debunk,” she appealed.
The wife of the governor also commended the leadership of Kebbi state NUJ, for coming up with the annual distribution of palliatives to the families of their deceased members.
Dr Bagudu also described the gesture as an invaluable one, noting, ” it is a good gesture worthy of commendation and emulation.”
She further charged the state NUJ to sustain the program, while also advising the bereaved family members to take good care of their young ones and maintain their family bond, which according to her was keeping them united.
