Kebbi Taekwondo Open: Over 100 athletes set to storm Birnin Kebbi

104 athletes have registered to compete for ranking points and money prizes at the forthcoming Kebbi Taekwondo Open Championships, which has been slated to hold between  November 9 and 11, 2019 at the Hauru Abdul Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The event, which is being organised by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation in conjunction with the Kebbi State Taekwondo Association, will be using the Daedo Gen 2 scoring technology, Instant Video Replay as well as the Taekoplan Overall Event Management system to ensure the event conforms to international standards.

An official press release by the NTF Technical Director Engr. Chika Chukwumerije revealed that the on-going registration exercise, which has seen 70 males and 34 females from 22 teams registered, is the last nationally ranked event of the Federation before the highly anticipated debut of the season-ending best-of-the-best championships in December that will host the nation’s top five athletes in each Olympic weight category.

According to him, “Thirteen of the 16 members of the National Team that represented Nigeria at the 12th All African Games are also registered to compete at the Kebbi event, including all six medalists led by team captains, All African Games Gold Medallist Chinazum Nwosu and All African Games Bronze medalist, Sunday Onofe.”

The event will be the first NTF-sanctioned taekwondo event to be held in Kebbi state, stretching the number of states that have experienced Federation national programs in the past 24 months to 10.

Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Ebonyi, Kaduna, FCT Abuja, Osun, Benue and Zamfara are other states that have hosted NTF-organised event.
