Kenya to host 2018 CHAN

The Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) will return to the CECAFA region in 2018 and will be hosted by Kenya, CAF has confirmed.
Rwanda will be the first nation in the CECAFA region to host the event in 2016.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed in a communication yesterday morning that Kenya will host the event in 2018.

The CAF executive committee reportedly made the decision in Cairo, Egypt, on February 21, 2014.
“The CAF executive committee has designated Kenya as host of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), following receipt of necessary government guarantees and complete dossier including the required infrastructure and security,” stated the communication from CAF.

The committee thanked also thanked The South African President, Jacob Zuma, and his government, the Local Organizing Committee and the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) for the excellent organisation of the 2014 CHAN tournament, which served as a rendezvous of African football.

“On behalf of the family of Mr. Nelson Mandela, President of the Local Organising Committee and the president of the federation of South African Football Association (SAFA) also thanked the president of CAF and its executive committee for tribute paid to Nelson Mandela during each match of the tournament, as well as the visit to his family with the president of FIFA, Joseph Sepp Blatter,” stated the communication.
