Kidnapped lecturer dies after ransom paid

The Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa in Nasarawa state was thrown into mourning over the dead of one of their staff members, Mr Gbenga Adelakun Ajayi.
The lecturer was kidnapped by unknown gunmen between Gitata/GidanMagoro along the border between Kaduna state and Nasarawa state.
GbengaAjayi who is a senior instructor at the polytechnic in the department of Urban and Regional Planning is a post HND student in Kaduna State Polytechnic and was returning from his studies before his abductors forcefully took him away.
Blueprint learnt that the decease who was living with diabetes and sickle cell anaemia was abducted on September 6, 2018 and released on September 10, 2018 after a ransom was paid by the family to the kidnappers.
Barely five days after his release, the 61-year-old lecturer from Ondo state gave up the ghost.
Speaking with Blueprint on the demise of their colleague, the chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa chapter, Dr Hussaini Yusuf expressed dissatisfaction on the state of insecurity in the country.
He said security challenges was a global phenomenon, however, the don urged government to provide security for the citizens.
He further described the late Ajayi as a humble gentleman who was dedicated in his job, and disciplined.
He stressed that the polytechnic community, staff and students would definitely miss him.
Hussaini also called on the government to create employment opportunity for the youth, maintaining that it is the only way to eradicate crime in the country.
Similarly, Prof.
Dauda Ishaya a mentor of the decease and a colleague expressed shock over the death of their colleague and urged the security personnel to be proactive in their dealings.
Ishaya advised security personnel to keep watch.
“The kidnappers dress in police uniform and when the saw them they thought they are security personnel and became victim” Dauda stated.
In the same vein, a family friend of the decease Abdullasam Salami expressed dismay over the current situation of kidnappers surrounding the Nasarawa communities.
Salami who is secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Nasarawa branch, disclosed that recently, their driver was kidnapped along with passengers in the vehicle between Udege/Loko road and a huge ransom was paid before their release
