Kidnappers operating on the Kaduna – Sarki Pawa road in Munya local government of Niger state reportedly killed three persons and kidnapped 10 others at the weekend.
It was gathered that the villages of Fwapai, Tsoho Kabulo, Shehudna, Bakin Nyanyi, Mudungo, Rigogo, Bakin Dako and Sabo Gida, all in Kabila ward of Munya local government, had been sacked and occupied by the kidnappers for the past two weeks.
In a shift reaction, the Senator representing the Niger East Senatorial District, David Umaru, called on the police and other security agencies to come to the rescue of the affected villagers.
He confirmed the incident to journalists in Minna, adding: “I have received several calls from villagers in Munya local government about the activities of kidnappers operating without challenge from security agencies. I am informed that about three persons have been killed while 10 other persons have been kidnapped on Friday and Saturday.”
He said the kidnappers had relocated from the Kaduna – Abuja road to Munya – Kabila ward wrecking havoc on the fleeing villagers.
Describing the attack on the villagers as “unfortunate,” the lawmaker urged the state government to “act immediately in protecting the lives and property of the villagers.”
He lamented that the security presence in the area had been drastically reduced which, according to him, gave room to increased activities of the hoodlums.
He said he had made efforts to get to the state Commissioner of Police and the Inspector-General of Police on the matter without success, but added that “I am on top of the matter now.”
