Kidnapping: Arrest insecurity in Kaduna, clergyman tells el-rufai

The Archbishop of Nigeria (Anglican communion), Kaduna Province and Bishop of Wusasa Diocese, Most Reverend (Dr) Ali Buba Lamido, has drawn the attention of Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, to the incessant kidnapping and other security challenges rocking the state.

In an exclusive interview with Blueprint in Zaria on Thursday, Bishop Lamido said, “Though the governor is living up to expectation in the infrastructural developmental projects which come with multiplicity of impact especially propelling the state to being the destination of choice for both local and foreign investors, which invariably would lead to job creation and provision of skilled and unskilled labour, thereby engaging most of the teaming youth roaming the state.

“However we call on the Governor to do more on the Security situation in the state the current security challenge has reached a dizzying height and staggering proportions.

“Kidnapping has become the order of the day. The kidnappers get into people’s houses and abduct them without any resistance or challenge from the security agents. Many people have been abducted and a lot of millions of naira were paid as ransom. Those kidnapped were subjected to dehumanising conditions and traumatising experiences. Some family members of the those kidnapped were shot while trying to to escape from the kidnappers.”

The clergyman further said the situation today was that of fear and trepidation, adding that people now hardly sleep.

He noted that from the testimonies of those who were kidnapped and regained freedom, the kidnappers were well armed and fighting them would certainly be a herculean task more so as they seemed to have informants among security agents.
