Kidnapping: Niger police reward 15 officers, arrest 85 suspects, recover 19 rifles, others

Niger Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman Thursday presented commendations and rewards to 15 gallant policemen for the successful combat of kidnappers and robbers in the state.

Their reward also followed  their role in the arrest of two suspects involved in the kidnap of a traditional ruler in Katsina state, Magaji Daura, which led to the rescue of the victim.

Presenting the commendations and undisclosed amount of money as rewards, the commissioner said the hardworking officers also actively participated in operation Puff Arder that arrested a notorious kidnapper in Rafi local government area of the state, linked to the kidnap of the son of a traditional ruler in Ibadan, Oyo state.

He said, “Two out of the eight suspects arrested in El-Waziri estate Bosso Minna were linked to the kidnapping of Magajin Daura in Katsina state and at that time, he was still in captivity, a development that led to the transfer of the case to Force Headquarters Abuja and the victim was eventually released unhurt”. 

In a breakdown of the 85 arrested suspects, the commissioner said, 26 were in the net for armed robbery, 19 kidnapers, seven cattle rustlers, 10 car theft, 10 vandals and 10 house breaking theft.

The commissioner explained that the operatives also recovered 19 rifles and guns, 153 rounds of ammunition, 290 cattle and a total of N603, 400, 000.

He assured the people of the state of adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful Sallah while soliciting for the cooperation of parents to monitor activities of their wards during and after the festivities.
