Kidnapping, rape: Nasarawa govt begins massive awareness

The Nasarawa state government has embarked on massive distribution of fliers to create awareness and educate the general public on the serious consequences of kidnapping and rape.

State commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Comrade Dogo Shamma, stated this at a press briefing in Lafia Tuesday.

He said the ministry would also embark on radio and television to programmes to educate the entire people of the state.

“The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism ° would continue to carry out our role of informing, enlightening and sensitising the people of Nasarawa state on the dangers of kidnapping and rape and its negative effects on the economy of the state.

He stated that kidnapping and rape has become worrisome not only to the people of the state, but investors who are equally willing to come and invest in the state. He said kidnapping and other crimes has increased fears in their minds.

He stated further that the government is committed to providing the best form of security to people of the state.

“I want to appeal to our people to see the issue of security as a collective responsibility and not that of government alone. We should at all times report all criminal elements in our environment as well as expose their various criminal activities.”

It would be recalled that on 21st October, Governor Abdullahi Sule had flagged off the aggressive sensitisation programme against the spate of Kidnapping and rape in the state.
