Killing of CAN Chairman: ACF urges intensified action against Boko Haram

Following the abduction and murder of Michika branch chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Lawan Andimi by Boko Haram, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called on government to intensify action against the terrorists.

The Northern socio-cultural organisation, who described the brutal killing of the clergy as barbaric and despicable, also called on Nigerian security agencies to improve their intelligence gathering and other strategies that would ensure that proactive steps are taken to avoid such “gruesome” acts in the future.

A statement signed by the ACF National Publicity Secretary, Malam Muhammad Ibrahim Biu on Thursday said, “Arewa Consultative Forum is shocked with the sad news of the gruesome murder of Rev. Lawan Andimi, Branch Chairman of CAN Michika in Adamawa state by the Boko Haram terrorists last Monday.

“Rev Andimi was kidnapped two weeks ago and has been in the captivity of his abductors, while the Adamawa state government was making frantic efforts to rescue him, sadly, the kidnappers brutally murdered him.

“This cruel act by the abductors was barbaric, despicable and should be condemned by all peace loving people.

“ACF once more calls on the security agencies and state governments to strengthen their intelligence network and track down the perpetrators of such heinous crimes especially the gruesome murder of Rev Andimi and many other innocent persons abducted and killed by these criminals.

“We equally appeal to the Federal Government and state government to be firm and decisive in dealing with terrorists that have continued to disturb our peaceful coexistence and progress to serve as a deterrent. Enough of this senseless killings of innocent souls.

“ACF extends its condolences to the family of Rev Lawan Andimi, the CAN in Michika, the government and people of Adamawa state over this irreparable loss. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement said.
