The Gaskiya Youths and Elders’ International Foundation has lambasted politicians who only criticise wanton killings and attacks in parts of the North for their selfish reasons, but has failed to take proactive measures in finding lasting solution to the incessant killings.
Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr Danladi William Makoshi, expressed concern over “the selfish and insincere criticisms of the incessant killings in the country,” adding that the politicians had turned the killings to mere political tool and would only criticise it when it occurred, but were never serious about looking for ways to solve the problem.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Kaduna, Makoshi decried the killings in the north by unknown gunmen, kidnappers in the south and other criminal elements operating in the country, while calling on everyone to rise up in one voice to condemn the evil trend and look for ways of bringing the bloodshed and daily loss of lives in the country to an end.
He said: “Even as the wanton killings threaten our corporate existence as a nation, we condemn in strong terms the attitude of some of our fellow countrymen who are only waiting for killings to happen and then express dishonest concern. Their criticism and attitude is borne out of the need to make themselves heard and popular without any genuine intention to see the bloodshed end.”
“The growing hatred among the people is not necessary. We should all come together in oneness irrespective of our ethnic and religious differences because we have been living together in peace and tranquillity for many centuries. It is only peace that will bring the needed development to every region in the country. “Rather than waiting for government jobs that are hardly available, youths should endeavour to be self-reliant through skill acquisition and eschew all forms of violence and insurgency.”
