Killings: Nigerians now living in fears, says SDP

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed worry over the recent persistent killings across the country, especially in the North-central zone, saying citizens are now living in fears.

The party has, however, demanded the sack of all the service chiefs while urgently bring in innovative ones “who can think out of the box” in addressing the current insecurity.

Addressing a press conference Wednesday in Abuja, SDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Goldba Tolofari, assured that come 2019, Nigerians will choose the party ahead of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration “because of the abysmal performance in the last years.”

Tolofari said apart from the insecurity that has led to killings of many Nigerians, the current administration has failed in all other indicators of social wellbeing and social inclusion.

“Only recently the country and the world watched in disbelief the wanton bloodletting and destruction of property in the seven communities, in three local government area of Plateau state. In that singular incident over 110 innocent Nigerians were reportedly to have lost their lives in one day.

“This erode all sense of National Security. This failure by the Buhari administration is inexcusable especially as the government was favoured by Nigerians in 2015 because of its promise to enforce security in the country. Three years after the reverse is the case. Nigerians have never before lived with a greater sense of insecurity. To all right thinking Nigerians this administration has failed on its promise in security.”

Reacting to the recent recognition of Jun 12 and post humours award given to late Moshood Abiola, the party while commending the government warned that “this administration must not seek to derive any political milage from the award. We are convinced tnat justice and fairness must never be denied anyone or group in the country for whatever reason or purpose.”

On the forthcoming 2019 general elections, SDP cakled on President Muhammadu Buhari and officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the coming elections are guided strictly by the provisions of electoral Act, saying “doing so will guarantee a level playing fueld for all parties and candidates to test their acceptance by Nigerian voters.”

The party, however, promised to pursue a national recovery programmes driven by its core values of transparency, accountability and zero tolerance for corruption when voted into power.

Tolafari said: “An SDP administration will enthrone a strict respect for human dignity, human rights and the sanctity of human life.”
