Klopp: Champions League the strongest

Jurgen Klopp is not too sure about Liverpool’s chances of defending their Champions League title this season, and has expressed his concern that English teams might not be able to dominate like last time, particularly because right now the league is strongest it has ever been.

The talented Liverpool manager also reiterated that there is no requirement of a separate European Super League as Champions League already serves as the ultimate tournament of Europe. He expected Liverpool to face one of the many top teams from the continent in the Champions League draw on August 29.

They have been rightly drawn against Napoli, with the other two teams in their group being Salzburg and Genk. It’s amazing that so many top-rated football teams have been seeded second in the League this time, which speaks volumes about the League’s quality and reputation.

Klopp unsure despite having led Reds to back-to-back Champions League finals

Klopp successfully led Liverpool to back-to-back Champions League finals, however is sure that they don’t go into the tournament as favourites this time, despite the fact that Liverpool won the last season’s final against Tottenham, in an all Premier League final. However, if we go by the football predictions, Liverpool does have a decent chance of putting up good fight this time around as well.

Talking to the press, Jurgen Klopp said, “I will have no problem with it [reaching the final] if it happens again, but at this moment I am not too sure it will. We have the same chance like everyone else, but that is all, and I don’t see us, the English teams, dominating. I really think a lot of teams have a good chance.”

Other promising teams in the fray

While Manchester City having lifted the Premier League trophy last season, Chelsea winning the Europa League and Liverpool becoming the European champions have been placed amongst the top 8 seeds of the tournament, Tottenham has been placed in pot two as a reward for reaching the Champions League finals last time. They have been placed alongside clubs like Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the pot two. Valencia, Bayern Leverkusen and Antonio Conte’s ambitiously created Inter Milan have been placed in pot three, while RB Leipzig are in pot four.

In Klopp’s opinion, this is the strongest pot two that he has ever seen. He thinks that it’s plain crazy and all the teams in pot two actually deserve a place in pot one. However, there is not ample space there too! He feels that pot three is also immensely strong.

Talking about the potential trophy contenders, Klopp expressed that one look at the Borussia Dortmund squad and anyone will start having doubts about Liverpool’s strengths. The German team is such that they can make 5 changes and will still be a force to reckon with. Then there are many other quality teams like Real Madrid, PSG, Juventus and more.
