Klopp, Guardiola, Pochetino, 7 others in FIFA best coach nomination award

Jurgen Klopp has been nominated for FIFA Coach of the Year after guiding Liverpool to Champions League glory last season.

The charismatic German boss is one of 10 nominees with three from the Premier League as Klopp is joined by Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino.

World Cup-winning boss Didier Deschamps, Brazil manager Tite and Portugal’s Fernando Santos also make the list as Djamel Belmadi, Marcelo Gallardo, Ricardo Gareca and Erik ten Hag complete the nominees.

Klopp is considered to be one of the favourites for the award after securing his first trophy as Liverpool manager in Madrid.

He came within a point of guiding Liverpool to a famous Premier League title but was pipped on the final day by Guardiola’s relentless Manchester City side.

Pochettino, who was on the losing side against Klopp in the Champions League final, has been rewarded following an impressive campaign after guiding Tottenham to their first ever European Cup final.

The difficulty for Pochettino is that lots of his rival nominees have major trophies to strengthen their case.

Algeria boss Djamel Belmadi guided his players to a first Africa Cup of Nations success since 1990 while Fernando Santos navigated Portugal to victory in the UEFA Nations League.

Tite oversaw Brazil’s recent Copa America victory without star man Neymar in their ranks.

Ajax were one of the most exciting teams throughout last season as they reached the Champions League semi-finals, before being beaten late on by Tottenham.

Having gone on to win the domestic double, boss Erik ten Hag earned himself a deserved nomination.

France national team coach Deschamps clinched the award last season after guiding Les Bleus to glory at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The winner will be announced at the annual ‘The Best’ ceremony in September in Milan.
