KNSG, Indonesia to partner on food processing

Kano state government will create enabling environment for Indonesian investors to invest in the state’s agricultural sector, towards revamping food production for local consumption and export, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has disclosed.
He said Kano “will open its doors to them in the area of food processing, to curb undue wastage of rice, wheat and vegetables, especially tomatoes produced by local farmers.”
A press statement said the governor, who spoke while receiving the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Harry Purwanto at the Aminu Kano House in Abuja, lamented that lots of incomes were wasted because the state lacked adequate food processing industries.
The governor requested Indonesian investors to kick start collaboration with entrepreneurs in the state in the area of leather processing, in view of the huge potentials available in the area, adding that investment in the Halal meat industry would also yield bountiful results.
Ganduje further called for a possible partnership in the area of solid minerals development, stressing that, “Kano, apart from being a commercial centre for Northern Nigeria, is also blessed with vast deposits of mineral resources in commercial quantities, which are largely unexploited.”
Earlier, Amb Purwanto explained that Indonesia enjoyed excellent trade relations with Nigeria, adding that investors from his country had expressed the desire to explore the opportunities in doing projects in Kano, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, agriculture and mining.
He advised the governor to take advantage of the window that would be provided by forthcoming Indonesia – Africa Forum, to attract direct foreign investment from Indonesia to Kano, for mutual benefits.
On her part, the Chief Executive Officer, Indonesia Export Bank, Sinthya Roesly, told the governor that her bank was ready to support Kano’s economic and social growth through a variety of products, including Islamic financing.
