The Board of Trustees BoT of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recommended an investigation into the roles of some of its members in the last Saturday Kogi and Bayelsa state governorship elections.
Briefing journalist at the end of its meeting at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, Thursday, BoT Chairman Senator Walid Jibrin expressed concerned with what is happening in Nigerian politics especially in Kogi and Bayelsa.
The BoT Chairman disclosed that “we reviewed the situation and condemned in totality the issue of rigging, killings, votes snatching that characterized this election and we condemned it, including the death of PDP leader women in Kogi.
“We also viewed the accusations and counter-accusation among our members on the behavior of some of our members both in Kogi and Bayelsa, especially in Bayelsa. We advised that we will not run the gun, we have to make thorough research before we come into conclusion of who did what and suggest remedies, he added.
He continued “therefore we recommended to the NWC that a very serious investigation must take place. And therefore we recommend that an interim committee has to be set up similar to the one that was set up after the 2015 election under the chairmanship of former deputy Senate Chairman, Ike Ekweremadu and myself, that time I was the secretary of the BoT and the secretary of the committee which came up with very useful recommendation. We came openly to blame certain people.
“We have formed various committees of the BoT to assist us the leadership of the BoT in running the activities of the BoT. we have instructed the various committees to go into action especially the committee on peace and conflict that we noted that there are many complaint going on within the party in Edo, Kano, Lagos, etc.
“We will ensure that the party becomes stronger and stronger. We call on our followers and members to remain resolute in the face of this election. We are also suggesting that NWC should carry on their activities. We have also asked the organs of the party that all of us must come together. And when everything is concluded, the meeting of the National caucus, the BoT, NEC and National Convention will now come to review all that we have done”.
