Kogi/Bayelsa polls: Political parties forum indicts APC, PDP, army, Police

The Forum of Political Parties Chairmen has blamed the failures observed in the Kogi and Bayelsa states governorship elections on security agencies, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The forum alleged that the two major parties sponsored thugs to harass, intimidated and snatch ballot boxes, all in attempt to manipulation election results, adding that thugs and compromised security operatives had a field day preventing people from legitimately exercising their franchise.

The forum, attended by about 62 political parties, however exonerated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from any blame for the failures observed during the November 16 elections in the two states.

These were contained in the communiqué it issued by its national chairman, Chief Kenneth Udeze

Also, the forum condemned the involvement of men of the Nigerian Army in the conduct of elections in the country, alleging that Nigerian Army personnel who were on election duties, just like policemen, aided thugs in disenfranchising the electorate in both states

Further, it called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, to explain how more than 35,000 personnel were overran by few political thugs in both states, and stressing that the IGP should be investigated.

The communiqué also urged the National Assembly to complete the necessary processes for the amendment of the Electoral Act, adding the act would address the seemingly intractable electoral failures in the country.
