Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Kogi state operation office, has charged independent marketers in the state to sell petrol at government regulated pump price and shun hoarding or be ready to face sanctions.
DPR acting Operation Manager, Mr Abidoye Muyiwa Samuel, who gave the charge while on inspection of filling stations in Lokoja to access the level of compliance to the N145 regulated pump price and its availability, warned that any filling station discovered to be hoarding the fuel and not selling to the general public would be sanctioned appropriately.
According to him, “We are on the field to check the level of compliance with respect to the pump price as stipulated by the federal government. We are also taking a look at the availability of fuel in stations to check the act of hoarding to cause unnecessary scarcity and hardship to the people of the state.
“We have also mandated some filling stations using only one pump to dispense the product to motorists to increase the number of pumps in order to sell to people and avoid unnecessary crowd.”
Samuel who was at the NNPC Mega station at Felele in Lokoja expressed satisfaction with the management of the station for selling petrol at the regulated pump price.
He enjoined the people of the state not to entertain any fear of scarcity of fuel, assuring that the federal government is not relenting on its effort to ensure that the product is readily available over the country.
One of the motorists who spoke with Blueprint, Mr Innocent Aduku, commended the DPR for their relentless effort in monitoring the filling stations in Lokoja and appealed to them to extend the gesture to other local government areas of the state.
