Kogi state Governor, Captain Idris Wada, has warned operators of private schools in the state to brace up on quality, saying that government would soon clamp down on primary and secondary schools that did not meet the requisite requirements.
He said over 400 private schools in the state were illegally established.
The governor stated this in a chat with newsmen as part of activities marking the 23rd anniversary of the state.
He said the state remained number one in the North-central zone, adding that his administration would not accept the establishment of illegal schools, and threatened that “soon government will clamp down on all the illegal schools in the state.”
He pointed out that his administration was working hard on correcting the challenges of teachers’ salaries, arising from the new minimum wage and gave the assurance that efforts were, however, being made to address the challenges.
On infrastructure development in the education sector, Wada stated that many primary and secondary schools had been renovated across the state to give the schools a face lift.
