A group, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) a Non-Governmental Organization has called on participating political parties in the November 16 governorship election in Kogi state to desist from campaign of character assignation and inflammatory statements capable of causing crises during and after the election.
The executive director CHRCR, Mr Idris Miliki Abdul, who made the call in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Lokoja Tuesday, said early warning signs has clearly revealed that political parties across board in the state are involved in campaign of character assignation
“It is worrisome that politicians are not telling the electorates what they intend to do, how they wants to do it, when they want to do it, so as to encourage public tracking.
“We are very worried that if these ugly trend is not check it can lead to monumental electoral crises as we move towards the November 16th Governorship election in Kogi state” the statement noted.
While calling on the security agencies across board to intensify efforts in engaging political parties, their supporters and all the candidates in on the need to shun inflammatory statements, Abdul charged INEC to consistently engaging relevant stakeholders on election guidelines.
