Kogi: One feared killed as hoodlums attack Wada’s convoy

One person was feared killed in Dekina local government over the weekend where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Engr Musa Wada held a stakeholders’ meeting.

This was disclosed by the PDP campaign council in Kogi state, which went further to decried recurrent attacks on its members in recent times during its campaigns.

The campaign organisation in a statement said a PDP supporter, Yusuf Seidu Uhiene, was killed in Ayingba, saying such attacks were too frequent to be ignored.

According to the statement signed by the Deputy Director, Public Communication of the campaign organisation, Mr Austin Okai, thugs it alleged were members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) attacked the convoy of the PDP governorship candidate on Saturday, when he visited Anyigba for a stakeholders’ meeting.

The statement claimed Uhiene was killed by APC thugs and added that two PDP supporters, Nasiru Sule and Ilemona, equally sustained serious injuries.

“Our candidate, Engr. Musa Wada was in Anyigba today to attend the Kogi East PDP stakeholders meeting. Between the main road and Harbour Bay, the venue of the meeting, APC thugs unleashed mayhem on our supporters killing one and injuring two others,” he said.

The statement also said that the PDP chairman for Anyigba ward, Alhaji Amidu, has made formal report to the police over the attack.

Further, the PDP appealed to the police authority in the state to contain the deadly activities of alleged APC hired thugs, adding attacks on opposition campaign convoy was undemocratic.

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the PDP urged the law enforcement agencies to protect the lives of members of the opposition, saying they have become the targets of the APC’s alleged hired armed men.

“The new system of laying ambush before attacking is a new trend devised by APC thugs to discourage the PDP from prosecuting its campaign due to commence soon.

“We deplore the killing of a promising young boy who was going about his own personal activities innocently before the attack.”
