Kogi REC laments uncollected PVCs

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kogi state, Professor James Apam has expressed concerns over the high figure of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) saying that a total of 293, 241 are yet to be collected by registered voters.
Professor Apam who disclosed this while speaking during the stakeholders meeting at INEC headquarters in Lokoja ahead of August 11th Lokoja/Koto Karfi Federal Constituency bye election yesterday, explained that the Commission has registered a total of 261,624,adding that the figure represents 121,996 and 129,643 males and females respectively .
Professor Apam pointed out that the commission also received 10,217 transfer and replacement of PVCs, adding that INEC has printed a total of 112, 323 PVCs out of which 18,000 were collected by owners.
He however lamented that a large number of PVCs still remains uncollected and pleaded that all stakeholders should help to sensitize the eligible voters who registered to collect their PVCs.
He noted that a total of 199,880 cards from 2014 are yet to be collected and 93, 461cards from current registration exercise still with INEC.
He reaffirmed that August 11th has been slated for bye election for Lokoja /Koto Karfi federal constituency House of Representatives seat, assuring the stakeholders that the commission will allow a level playing ground for all the political parties.
