Kogi speaker urges Nigerians to guard democracy

Lokoja Speaker, Kogi state House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole, has called on Nigerians to guard the nation’s ‘hard-earned and uninterrupted democracy,” saying it remained the best option for the country.
In a statement issued by the speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Femi Olugbemi, yesterday to mark the 19th anniversary of Democracy in the country , Prince Kolawole noted that despite its various challenges, majority of Nigerians still believed in the system as the only form of government that could truly provide the necessary representation the people needed.
The Speaker, who urged Nigerians to continue to support and strengthen the system, called on the opposition not to overheat the polity.
“I implore you to complement the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari by engaging in constructive criticisms devoid of bad blood, where necessary, because this is the only way to move the country forward.
“I am also cautioning the opposition not to play politics with the security challenges in the Northcentral, especially Taraba and Benue states, and other parts of the country.” He stressed that all hands must be on deck to jointly confront the menace of insecurity adding that federal government had done much in tackling the insurgency in the North-east.
The speaker, however, regretted the herdsmen and farmers clashes that had led to the death of many and urged security agencies to gear up their strategies in tackling the security problems.
He assured that the Sixth Assembly in the state under his watch would continue to make laws that would promote good governance in the state in the overall interest of the citizenry
