The people of Kogi Western senatorial district have called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Yahaya Bello to re-contest the 2019 election in order to consolidate on their transformation agenda.
At a rally in Kabba, organised by stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the district on Monday received over 1, 700 defected members of the People Democratic Party (PDP) who joined the ruling party.
Addressing party loyalists and supporters at the occasion, the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, said the call for President Buhari to continue beyond 2019 was necessary to enable him recover all the wealth of the nation stolen by opportunistic politicians who did not have the interest of the country at heart.
He pointed out that those who were visibly against President Buhari were the corrupt politicians who were supposed to hide their face in shame, as a result of their record that plunged the country into the current precarious financial situation.
Bello however charged the supporters to get their permanent voter cards (PVC) to permanently send the corrupt politicians into political oblivion.
On his double registration allegation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the governor said he was not perturbed, noting that what bothered him much was how best he could remove Kogi state from its present sorry state where the common wealth of the people had been carted away.
“That is why it baffles me a lot because I cannot be in Dubai and at the same time be in Kogi; so the noise of the double registration cannot distract me from achieving my laudable plans for the state.”
Speaking at the rally, APC stalwart, Senator Smart Adeyemi, disclosed that the rally was organised principally to inform the whole world where the district stood in the politics of the state and Nigeria at large.
Adeyemi, who is the current chairman of Kogi Elders Forum, pointed out that the anti-corruption war of President Buhari and the style of governance of the Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello were reasons why they had to beg them to re-contest the 2019 elections.
