Kogi youths want NSCDC boss sacked over okada rider’s murder

A group, Kogi Youths for Social Justice (YSJ), has called on the Minister of Interior to, as a matter of urgency, sack the state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Everastus Ibiyo, over the murder of an Okada rider, Onimisi Ilori, in Adavi local government area of the state. Ilori was said to have been tortured to death by the Corps on Sunday at the Ogbogogo office of the NSCDC in Adavi for refusing to admit to stealing his master’s motorcycle.
He was said to have earlier informed his master that the motorcycle had been stolen a day earlier where he had parked it. Personnel of the NSCDC, who interrogated him, were said to have insisted that he confessed that he stole the motorcycle, and thereafter allegedly tortured him to death. However, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Agiri Alex, in a press statement, claimed that the suspect was not tortured to death, but committed suicide in their cell. Worried by the situation, the President of the youth organisation, Comrade Adeiza Mohammed, in a statement, said the organisation was economical with the truth.
The statement read in part: “How can a suspect who was thoroughly searched, his cell phone, money and everything on him were confi scated before he was detained and even he was said to have been stripped naked before he was tortured to death now come to commit suicide? “This is the lie of the century and we want the federal to investigate this and bring all those involved in the murder of the innocent boy to justice, because the excesses of this Civil Defence guys are too much. “This is how they almost kill a pregnant woman and some staff of JAMB in Lokoja few years ago. It is time governmental should take a proactive measure to stop them from killing innocent citizens.”
