Aware of long term preparation which guarantees medal success, Korea Cultural Centre (KCC) has already began bid to queue behind Nigeria’s charge for medals harvest in taekwondo at the 2024 Olympic Games.
To this end, the centre has stepped up training sessions for kids, aged between three and 10 years old, alongside in-house poomsae and Kyrougi championships.
The latest among other their events which took place in Abuja witnessed huge turnout of growing athletes who demonstrated varying skills after they were grilled in martial arts.
Giving more insight into the programme which takes place every quarter, coordinating coach and four-degree black-belter, Abdulmalik Mohammed, who explained the rationale behind the competition maintained that the event was put together to build confidence and expose the kids to basic techniques, style forms and other aspects of the sport.
He added; “It is what we do every time to enable the kids exhibit what they have learned overtime. The bottomline is to prepare them for 2024 Olympic Games,”
The coach, who is a third-class international referee, lauded the Korean Cultural Centre initiative which he said would be of immense benefit to Nigeria given the quality of the equipment provided. Muhammed then assured that Nigeria would excel at the Paris 2024 Olympics if the kids are properly monitored and sponsorship to World Taekwondo Federation sanctioned events
Nigeria have failed woefully in taekwondo since Chuka Chukwumerije won a bronze medal at Beijing 2008 to the extent of not qualifying for 2016 Olympics.
In some of the events decided at the KCC Championship, Faisal Farouk Mu’azu defeated Ikechukwu chizea to win gold in the Olympic style sparring, whilw Nwachukwu Chizea finished third.
Faisal Farouk Muazu also defeated EneJoh Michelle in the Poomsae (Yellow Belt) to clinched gold medal, while Fela Omole outscored Ndubisi Chizea in the Olympic style sparring to win gold.
