Korean govt seeks Science ministry’s partnership on STI

The Republic of Korea on Tuesday in Abuja, approached the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) to partner on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) to improve both county’s economy.

During the visit, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, said the proposal to join a committee will boost the bilateral relationship between both nations and will further strengthen both economies.

“Here we are working exceptionally very hard to ensure that our economy is not depending on commodities but on innovation driven society. Our nation is endowed with a lot of resources that many nations are in need of and we are deploying STI to convey the resources into products and services that we need in our homes, hospitals, in a way to build and diversify our economy, create jobs for the Nigerian youths and as well create more wealth for the nation and the world at large.

According to Onu that Mr. President is committed to making sure that there are no poor people in the future of Nigeria. “In 10years, Nigeria should be able to move 100m Nigerians out of poverty and if we continue on such pace, it will attain what China has achieved to curtail extreme poverty.

Earlier, the Ambassador of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Nigeria His Excellency, Mr. Jon Tong Choi, said his country has prioritize STI for a long time. Adding that, “we have set forth a 5year plan in developing the economy this year and the first target to reach out to is on STI, to ensure it becomes the engine of the economy.
