I must commend the officers of the Nigeria Police Force at Dakibiu, Jabi Area of Abuja, for their recent demonstration of the mantra – police is your friend.
An alleged fake house agent, Mrs. Doris Ozioma, placed a notice on someone’s house with her phone number to indicate the house was for rent, and quickly collected the agency fee of N10,000 from Miss Falilat Shittu, who was interested in the house.
The owner of the house in question, Mrs. Christiana Chichi, got the information, and reacted immediately by letting Miss Falilat know that she owns the house and has never put Mrs. Doris Ozioma as an agent in charge of her house.
Thereafter, Miss Falilat’s pleaded to Mrs. Doris to refund her money since the house owner has denied her claim, but she rather threatened Falilat to scare her away.
This issue was reported to me since many have known me as someone who hates injustice and fights for the voiceless. I called Mrs. Doris to hear her own side of the story, and she still claimed she was in charge of the house in question as an agent, and even advised me to contact the house owner to find out from her. To my surprise, Mrs. Christiana, the landlady, vehemently denied having anything to do with Doris, and stated practically during my telephone conversation with her, that she did not put Mrs. Doris Ozioma in charge of her house as an agent.
I called Mrs. Doris again to inform her of Christiana’s disagreement, but she would not allow me to talk since she shouts continuously without listening to me.
With that attitude, I could not stand her. Therefore, I drafted a complaint and gave it to the victim to submit at Dakibiu Police Station as the incident happened within the station’s jurisdiction.
The police went after Mrs. Doris and so far, they have recovered N5,000 from the said amount. Although I am not completely satisfied with the conclusion, as the police pleaded that Miss Falilat should let go of the remaining balance, I will still applaud the police for their effort, and urge them to keep it up.
The aim of making this public is to let people know that there are many fake house agents and everyone should be careful in order not to be a victim of their 419 activities.
