Kuje chairman’s cup kicks off




As a show of Kuje area council administration’s enthusiasm for sports, the 12th edition of chairman’s football cup competition has
kicked off with advice to the participants to display the spirit of
sportsmanship during and after the competition.

Addressing the officials and participating teams in Kuje township
stadium Tuesday, Suleiman Sabo said “sport is a social phenomenon that appeals to everybody, young or old, male or female, able or disable, black or white.”


He said the popularity and respect commanded by some nations today are greatly dictated by achievements in the field of sports.
The chairman said there will be sport competition in Kuje every quarter of the year and promised to provide sporting materials for effective development of sport activities in the area.

 
He stated that “sport is the education of the body through physical
activities and its forms an integral part of the total education of
person, a vital part of man’s total experience.”
The council boss encouraged the players and stated that in sport
people derive benefits from taking part as it reduces the risk of
dying prematurely from heart disease and alleviates emotional feeling of anxiety and depression. “It also maintains healthy bones and agility, muscles, joints and develop strength,” he said.

According to him, sport is not limited. Rather, it is a broad team
that is aimed at a well rounded development of children as responsible future citizens.

He called on government, organisations and well meaning Nigerians to support youths to engage in positive things because they need
encouragement. He pointed out that youths are available for service
and to be discovered at all times. He called on youths to shun social
vices such as drug abuse and thuggery.

About 40 teams registered for the competition, 12 teams from Rubochi ward and 28 teams from Kuje central ward.


At the opening match, Young Gunners defeated Kuchiyako United by 3 goals to 1.
The competition is expected to end in this December.
