Kuje council staff cooperative elects officials

Kuje area council staff multipurpose cooperative society has elected new executives to pilot the affairs of the society for the next four years.
Mr. Danlami Zakwoyi, after a keenly contested elections conducted, last week, at the area council, emerged president.
He won the election after polling a total of 77 votes to beat his opponent, Abdulkareem Sule, with 43 votes.
Blueprint gathered that the election which was the first since the cooperative was formed in 2014 to encourage savings and cater for the welfare of staff had interim officials in the past four years.
In his speech, the outgoing interim President, Alhaji Falalu Sani, thanked members for believing in his leadership for the past four years, urging them to vote capable and selfless leaders and not based on sentiments.
Sani, however, emphasised that only registered members “will be allowed to cast their votes and be voted for.”
A Representative of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) cooperative Society, Isah Egari, in his remarks, commended the Cooperative for its “giant stride in organising the elections,” saying “plans by other area councils to do same had failed.”
According to him, election is not a do-or-die affair as there must be a winner or a loser.
The chairman, Electoral Committee, Mr. Orinya John, before the elections proper, had read out the guidelines and voting procedures stating that candidates and voters should conduct themselves in an orderly manner for the election to succeed.
The new president, in his acceptance remarks, thanked members for finding him worthy of “this prestigious position” and promised to carry every member along.
The following positions were vice-president, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, financial secretary, auditor, PRO were won by Talatu Hadiza Jibrin, Danjuma Abubakar, Fache O. Ayodele, Baba Adugu Mukailu, Azong Gyok, Mathias Simon, and Usman Daruwana, respectively.
