Kaduna A three-month research carried out by Th e Kukah Centre (TKC) on Southern Kaduna confl icts, has identifi ed non-implementation of the White Papers recommendations as one of the key problem militating against peace. TKC, in collaboration with Nigeria Stability and Reconciliatory Programme (NSTP), also identifi ed impunity, lack of accountability and inadequate compensations as key problems of confl icts in Southern Kaduna. TKC Programme Manager, Rev. Attah Barkindo, who disclosed these in an interview at after a roundtable discussion on Memory and Inter-group Dialogue on Southern Kaduna, organised by the two bodies, said over 26 White Papers had been written on the confl icts in southern Kaduna, but most of the recommendations were not implemented.

“We’ve carry out a three-month research programme by TKC in fi ve local governments in Southern Kaduna and we’re fi nalising our fi ndings, bringing together diff erent group, women, youths, farmers, elders, Fulani, to come and examine what we’ve done. Analyse what we’ve found before we publish the report and lunch it offi cially. “We want to use the report to engage government and international community at diff erent levels”, he said. Barkindo said a criminal should be allowed to account for his action, stressing that the belief “does not apply to Southern Kaduna alone, but all over the country. People should be convicted, but over the years, this is not done. Th at is why people do certain things and go free from being punished. Long years of impunity that exist in southern Kaduna is one of the problem in the area”. He also stated that for peace to reign, people should move away from talk-shop and engaged in serious dialogue, and this should be paramount for now.
