Kwara Assembly tasks govt on flood prevention

The Kwara state House of Assembly yesterday, urged the state government to take immediate step in averting annual occurrence of flood in all parts of the state.
The House made the call in its resolution after adopting the explanation on recent loss of lives and property caused by flood at Atikeke area along Ajaseipo road, llorin.

The issue was raised during plenary by Alhaji Saadu Tanke (APC) representing llorin South Constituency under a matter of urgent public importance.
The House, in its resolution, sympathized with the families of three persons that died in the flood, urging government to immediately embark on measures that will curb flood in the state.

The legislature urged the state Ministry of Works and Town Planning Development Authority to be alive to their responsibility by providing proper drainages along water ways to check flooding.
The legislature also advised residents of the state to desist from dumping refuse on drainages, especially during rain to guide against flood.
The House also directed the state government to provide relief materials to over 100 residents rendered homeless by rainstorm in Baruten Local Government.
