Kwara by-election: Gov AbdulRazaq leads APC campaign…lead

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state Tuesday flagged off the campaign of All Progressives’ Congress (APC) for the by-election into the seat of the Patigi constituency at the state House of Assembly.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed March 14 for the by-election following the death of the erstwhile occupant, Saidu Ahmed Rufai, in December 2019.

The governor embarked on campaign tour of various communities in the Patigi local government area ahead of the Saturday’s election.

The communities that campaign has touched were Esanti, Patigi, Kpada, Rogun and Lade, among others.

In his message, AbdulRazaq recounted how his administration is steadily changing the story of the area through various developmental projects, which included renovation of schools, rehabilitation of roads, irrigation sites and water projects.

The governor has on the train the Senator Abubakar Sadiq-APC Kwara North, Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly, Danladi Salihu, federal and state legislators, cabinet members and local party loyalists, among others.

The governor asserted that his strides in the state within the short period have justified the confidence of the voting public and such stride should again speak for the party in the Saturday balloting.

“The crowd has shown that people are understandably excited because we have been fixing basic amenities unlike in the past. We scored about 75 per cent here in the 2019 election. With your support, we will exceed that in Saturday’s election.

“We are working very hard and steadily to address the challenges in this area. We are aware of the challenges you faced as a result of overflow of River Niger.

“I have spoken with the Governor of Niger State and we are making efforts to ensure that the dredging of the River Niger is captured in the 2021 budget,” AbdulRazaq told the crowd.

He said that his government was concerned about the havoc that flood was wrecking on farmlands and houses every year in the area.

The party had settled for the younger brother of the deceased lawmaker, Adam Ahmed Rufai, as its flag bearer for the poll. (NAN)
