Kwara civil servants least paid, says minister

Minister of National Planning and Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has described civil servants in Kwara state as the “least paid in Nigeria.”
Making the positions known yesterday at an interaction with some Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) supporters at his residence in Ilorin, Sulaiman said: “It is despicable and unthinkable that great as this state is, its civil servants remain the least paid in the country.
“What we see here are not new roads but the rehabilitation of the old ones, roads which ordinarily should be fixed by the local governments. Is it not a cause for worry that N2 billion was being used to rehabilitate our General Hospital in Ilorin? What then will it cost us to construct new ones? Let Kwarans ask questions on how they are being governed and what goes into it.”

Suleiman believed the exit of former governor of the state, Senator Bukola Saraki, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a sign of greater things to happen to people of the state.
“Today, Kwarans are wiser and our mothers, fathers and even the youths are done with politics of eba, amala and just pittance. They are ready to take their destiny in their hands. It is not about money but our future.”
On his recent visit to Agbaji quarters, the minister clarified that contrary to the believe in some quarters that he allegedly invaded the area with thugs, he said: “Between me and the architects of that rumour, Allah shall judge us. My root as a pure Ilorin born won’t allow me to attack or shut down mosque, a house of God. ”
Earlier, in his remarks, leader of the group, Mr. Salawe Salawe, commended the minister for his leadership and urged him not to waiver, saying that “we all are on a rescue mission and we cannot afford to fail.”
