Kwara police arrest man for illegal voter registration

 

Kwara state police command has arrested one person for allegedly conducting illegal registration of voters in Offa local government area of the state.

A statement by the administrative secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Mr. Paul Atser, said that the suspect carried out the criminal act using scanned INEC Permanent Voters Card, through computer application called Corel Draw.

Atser, who said that the suspect was already undergoing further investigations by the police, advised people to be watchful and ensure that they go to only INEC designated registration centres to be captured in the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise.

“It has come to notice of the independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Kwara state that some unscrupulous persons are carrying out illegal registration of voters in Offa local government area of Kwara state using scanned INEC permanent voters card through an application called Corel Draw.

“Already one suspect had been apprehended and is undergoing further investigation by the police”, he said.

The INEC boss said that a list of designated registration centres was available from the INEC Kwara state office and all local government offices of the commission in the state.
