Kwara to PDP: Don’t play politics with labour issues

Kwara state government has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to stop politicising issues that concerns the welfare of workers.
It advised the party to provide credible alternative to government programmes rather than “playing to the gallery with weighty issues”

The state chapter of the PDP had in a statement .through its Interim Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Mariam-Alhasan, advised Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of the state to ensure that he find solutions to the demands of the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state, as contained in their letter addressed to him dated 27 February 2014.

The JNC, according to the letter, had demanded the  immediate stoppage of MDG deduction, resolve all issues surrounding Zenith Bank shares within two weeks, implement the Minimum Wage of GL.07 and above, in relation to the relativity issues of the 53.37 percent increment.

It demanded full implementation of COHHESS, implementation of weighing allowance to state-owned media (Kwara Television, The Herald, and Radio Kwara), workers in the state and immediate payments of the gratuities to all the retirees in the local government and primary schools.

But the state government, in its reaction, through a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abdulwahab Oba, said PDP was trying to politicise the on-going dialogue between the government and the organised labour.
