Kwara to spend N2bn for schools renovation

The Kwara state government is to spend the sum of over N2 billion for the frst phase of renovation of selected public schools across the state,  permanent secretary ministry of Education and Human capital development, Alhaja Mariam Ayodeji Garba, has disclosed.

Garba made the disclosure at the opening of tender submitted by contractors who bidding for the renovation works.

The event was held at the premises of the state ministry of Education and Human Capital development Ilorin, kwara state capital.

Garba said, “the infrastructure decay/deficit inherited by the administration of governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRasaq was so enormous and cannot be immediately remedied due to the huge cost.

“The present administration has therefore demonstrated courage in deciding to institute modalities for the gradual renovation of dilapidated structures and provision of essential facilities that will make public schools in the state conducive for teaching and learning and pledged the sum of over 2 billion for the first phase of the work”

She added that under the first phase of the work, eight first generation schools will undergo comprehensive renovation, while other 23 selected across the state will only undergo classrooms/offices to ameliorate the poor infrastructural facilities in the schools.

Commenting on the open tender screening process, the state secretary of the indigenous contractors association, Mr Maruf Funsho Ahmed, said “I am pleased with the process of the open tender bids so far, it was transparent. However, We urge the people in charge to continue in this way till the winners will emerged”

Another observer at the event, Engineer Dr.Temitope Odetoyinbo, who said she represented the society of engineers in the state, also applauded the process

Odetoyinbo said his association would ensure that whoever win those contracts make use of standard materials and engaged the services of competent and qualified persons during the execution.
