Plans are underway by Kwara state Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBE) to upgrade 70-year old Alore Primary School in Ilorin West local government area of the state to a junior secondary school status.
Former KWSUBEB acting director, Finance and Supply and Permanent Secretary- Designate, Dr Ahmed Sebutu made the disclosure while speaking with journalists at the 70th anniversary celebration of the school.
This was just as a member representing Ilorin North-West constituency in the state Assembly, Hon Abdulrafiu Abdulrahman assured that the House would ensure the inclusion of the school among those to be renovated under the state capital projects this year.
According to Sebutu, the government decision was part of plans by the state government to create ‘‘space for infrastructural development’’ in the school which had produced great men and women who have contributed to the development of the community and the state as whole.
Sebutu also called on parents as ‘‘first school’’ of every child, to be alive to their responsibilities to ensure the success of their children and wards in school.
Also speaking, Hon Abdulrauf, who is also a product of the school, urged all former pupils of the school to rally support with the old pupils in providing teaching aides and learning materials to complement the government efforts.
In his lecture, a lecturer in Kwara state University, Male, Dr Abdulkadir Sambaki, called for proper attention of primary education, describing it as the bedrock of overall development of any nation.
The doctor of Islamic studies stressed the need for the people of Ilorin communities to discountenance the myths of the ancient people and embrace science education to facilitate the saying ‘‘no contradiction between Al-Qura’an and science.’’
