A group under the aegis of Association of Kwara Students and youth stakeholders has appealed to the executive governor of kwara state Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed to order management of Kwara State University (KWASU) to resume academic activities on campus.
Blueprint recalls that the institution was shut down as result of crisis that emanated from sending its Vice Chancellor, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, on terminal leave ahead of the completion of his second term of five years as Vice-chancellor of the institution.
The youth group who claimed to be alumni of the state owned University made the appeal while addressing the journalists in Ilorin , the state capital
Chairman of the association, Alhaji Sa’eed Bolaji Yusuf, urged the governor to act in the most appropriate manner to save the nstituton.
“Our purpose of being here is to add our voices of reason to the ongoing development in KWASU as the current administration runs out its course, and to specifically advise our governor to act in the most appropriate manner, in the interest of the entire state and fear of God
“If care is not taken, the ongoing development/mild crises in KWASU may get out of hand, and an institution that has erstwhile enjoyed peace and tranquillity, especially at its founding stage may turn out to become a theatre of war which does nobody any good. And stand to jeopardise our lives as youth and future of this state.
“To us, there are some people that are trying to make governor look like a bad person on his decision and those set of people or group are doing that because of their selfish interests and wicked hearts. Governor is not an enemy of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah.
“It is doubtful if any Vice-chancellor of a state-owned university in Nigeria could be as free to run the institution, to travel locally and internationally, at will, on the university expense as Professor Na’Allah has been in the last 10 years of his reign as KWASU Vice-Chancellor.”
They, however, called on the governor to take decisive actions on the issue of KWASU and ensure that his own good efforts and those other founding fathers of the University do not go in vain.
