Four competitors from Kwara state have emerged winners in different categories at the just concluded national Quranic recitation completion held in Bauchi state.
Those who won medals for the state are; Aisha Ahmad Abdul-Rauf Apaokagi, who came 4th in the memorisation of two-third of the Holy Qur’an in the female category and Taofeeqah Alafara – a medical student of the University of Ilorin, who came 1st in the memorisation of 2 Hizbs – also in the female category.
In the male category, Muhammad Nurudeen, also from Kwara state, came 1st in the memorisation of 10 Hizbs of the Holy Qur’an, while Muhammad Jamiu Imam-Fulani came 3rd in the 2 Hizbs competition.
In all, Kwara state competitors won a new car, a tricycle, two motorcycles, a sewing machine and cash of over N1 million. In addition, all participants were given N50, 000 each.
A total of 32 states took part in this year’s competition during which a total of 142 competitors vied for honours in the contest organised by Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
The Kwara state contingent to the competition was led by the State Coordinator, Alh. Waliyyullahi Aliyy-Kamal and participants and officials have all returned home safely.
The 10-day national Qur’an recitation competition ended over the weekend in Katsina state with Bauchi state winning the highest category of the male competition while Borno state won the highest category of female competition.
The winners for the two states were Ameer Yunusa Guru from Bauchi and Amina Aliyu Muhammad from Borno state.
The two of them became National Champions in their categories, featuring memorisation of the Holy Qur’an with Tajwid and Tasfeer, that is, commentaries on some portions of the Qur’an.
