Kwara youth protest against SARS operatives

Scores of youths in Kwara state yesterday took to the streets protesting against the conduct and operations of the police’s Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives.
The protesting youths demonstrated on major streets of Ilorin, the state capital, taking their protest to the secretariat of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) along Offa road, Ilorin where they called on the journalists across the country to assist them on their demand for the scrapping of the police sub-organisation.
The youths alleged that the conduct and operations of SARS had led many Nigerians into their early graves.
A leader of the protesters, Mr. Yomi Akande told journalists in an interview that, it was high time the federal government removed SARS from the police force in the country, saying their activities had affected human rights posture in the country, adding that many innocent people had met their untimely death due to the activities of the men of SARS of the police force.
However, the men of the state police command were also on ground to maintain peace and order throughout the youths’ protest in the state.
Speaking on the protest, the state police commissioner, Mr. Lawan Ado said that, the police command would not condone any act of anti human conduct of men of SARS in the state.
Ado added that anyone with report of misconduct of his men should bring it to his notice, adding that the command would not hesitate to flush out officers found culpable in any act of corruption during the course of their duties.
